Care for Diabetic Neuropathy

Diabetic neuropathy is nerve damage caused by diabetes. The longer you have diabetes and the higher your blood sugar, the greater the risk you have for developing a neuropathy.

Be sure to tell your family doctor or endocrinologist if you have numbness or pain in your:

  • Hands
  • Arms
  • Feet
  • Legs

People with diabetes also can have nerve damage in their:

  • Digestive tract
  • Heart
  • Sex organs

If you have problems in any of these areas, you could have a diabetic neuropathy. If you have a diabetic neuropathy, your family doctor may refer you to the Neuromuscular Center for help.
